Condor Electric Guitars look and feel a lot like a vintage classic from rock and roll's golden era. Yet they're modern, up-to-date rockers that sound incredible through an amp and are extremely affordable.
Very similar in design to the classic Fender Stratocaster, the Condor GX 40 features three single coil pickups in a Neck, Middle, Bridge configuration and a 5-way selector switch that mixes the tones between cutting edge bite to mellow.
While many cheap electric guitars scrimp on electronics, this is where the Condor shines, but we'll get to that near the end when we give you a sample clip of this guitar's sound in two contrasting musical styles.
The neck has 19 frets on a rosewood fretboard and the bodies are made of basswood or alder.
The guitar on this page features a Redburst finish, with a dark red color around the edges which lightly fades to reveal the wood grain toward the middle. Other colors include Honey Burst, Blue and Lava Red.
Strung with a set of .009-gauge strings, we found this Condor easy to play with a very fast neck. The tremolo bridge is very similar to those found on Fender Strats.
But plugging the guitar in is where it really stands out. That hard-to-find Strat "squawk" oozes from every note we could squeeze out when playing clean. While a heavily distorted sound gave us an authentic heavy metal/thrash sound. Running the guitar through a jazz setting gave us the convincing tone to play "Misty".
We recorded a couple sample tracks to give you an idea of what we're talking about here. Both of the tracks were recorded through the Garageband software that came with our Mac.
The Heavy Metal track is an original jam made with two overdubbed Condors riffing on a Pentatonic and Prygian mode.
The Misty track is played with a bit of chorus and reverb.
