Two Child Electric Guitar Mini Models That Rock Young & Old
These two child electric guitar models are perfect for the tiny player in your life, or as an excellent travel companion that's small enough to fit in an overhead compartment when flying.
On the left we have the Fender Squier Mini Player. And on the right side is the First Act FE529 Discovery Portable electric guitar model.
Both mini rockers have quite a lot in common.
They both come in black and feature a built-in amplifier and speaker so that practice or performance can be accomplished anywhere your little one desires.
They both have a 1/4" output jack to plug directly into a amplifier. And they share the abilty to play into headphones, which cancels out the built-in speaker for late-night practicing or motel room jam sessions.
Fender Squier Mini Player
This mini 6-stringer child electric guitar has that traditional Stratocaster body shape that's become synonymous with rock, blues and country.
A humbucker bridge pickup tranfers the string vibes into music through the speaker.
Two control knobs fill out the control panel area. The front knob turns the built-in amplifier on and the farther the player rolls this knob clockwise, the more gain is achieved.
Maxing out the gain knob gives the guitar a bit of overdrive growl. The sound that emanates from this setting is workable, and could provide a serious player with some nice novelty sounds.
The rear knob controls the volume of the built-in speaker.
Portable power comes from a 9-volt battery, which we guess will not be providing too many hours of playing enjoyment. The model we tested was ready for a battery replacement.
When this happens, the tone and volume both suffer. Most players will probably opt for plugging the 9v adapter into a wall outlet and saving the battery power for purely desperation times.
The action was a bit high on our test model, however, because of the shorter scale, the strings were not too hard to play and hold down.
Our guitar stayed in tune fairly well and was tuned to the standard EADGBE.
Overall, we say this model would make a great starter for a kid of any age, not just the little ones.
Adults may find the novelty of this guitar enough to provide for hours of entertainment.
Camping trips, beach outings, park gatherings, picnics, cross country travel, college dorm living are perfect scenarios for this little axe.
Players that take themselves too seriously will not enjoy this mini rocker. But these people are probably not regular visitors to this site anyway, so who cares?
Suggested retail is around $250, but they're being sold right now for $149 lowest advertised price.
First Act Discovery Portable Guitar
We're really interested in this child electric guitar mostly because of where they're sold. We're talking Wal-Mart and Target here, not your traditional retail outlets like Guitar Center.
The listed price is also intriguing at $75. While we are in the process of procuring one of these little minis, the info we've been able to cull is as follows.
A single coil pickup in the bridge position brings out the sound and a single control knob is offered we're assuming to control the volume.
Nine-volt battery power gives this little axe the power to play anywhere but there's no mention of a 9v AC power adapter, which would allow players to bypass the battery.
We're in the process of getting one of these to review, so bookmark now and keep checking back. More info, pictures, video reviews and more are on the way!
