Early summer is a great time of year for many people, most of which are school kids who have the entire summer off! A fair share of K-12 and college kids take summer lessons here at the LI Guitar School in Port Jefferson, NY. After 20 years of collecting guitar TAB publications, I've started liquidating my stock of out-of-print and vintage note-4-note transcription magazines, books and collections. You'll find transcriptions to many classic rock songs from artists such as ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rush, Pearl Jam, Beatles, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, and so many more. Many of them include standard notation as well as TAB and some even come with audio CDs with backing tracks so you can play along with your newly learned guitar part. One of these collections even has a lesson, TAB and backing track to James Taylor's guitar part to "You've Got a Friend."

I've received many emails asking where to find the TABS I use so here's the best place to get 'em. I'm a big believer in accuracy when using TABS so I've got very high standards. You should too, otherwise your playing suffers.

Learning the guitar by ear has come a long way! In the 1970s when I started guitar, in order to figure out a fast guitar solo, we used to slow the music down by adjusting the turntable RPMs. Yeah, the guitar solo would slow down, but the pitch would drop in like manner, making it a guessing game as to where the notes actually were on the fretboard. Digital technology today allows almost any riff to be mastered, while staying in tune!

Mar 27, Lost on a $500 Les Paul

Today I lost a bid on a very cool Gibson The Paul II model electric guitar. It's one of the last great American solid body deals made by Gibson. Discontinued, of course, but that's why it's on this site! When you see one going for $350, jump on it like i did, biding my time until the last few seconds so as not to set off a feeding frenzy. Except Ebayers have become savvy to these gems lately and the bidding was not and heavy in the end. This is one axe where I will break my $500 limit and go a little higher, because it is an American made Les Paul and they will no doubt become classics as time goes on. Plus have you seen prices for Les Pauls lately????
