About the tuning used on this riff: Open E is used for this tune, as you probably already know since you watched the video (right?). But the term Open E can be misleading. Yes, the tuning creates your classic E major chord, but only when you based the tuning on a Low E. Just take that entire E chord down to Eflat and you've now got a Open Eflat tuning, and everything you play from this riff will now be played in the key of Eflat. Same for tuning the open chord with D in the lowest note. Tonalities based on Drop D tunings resonate with many players today, so this song will sound just as good, if not better, in the key of D major.
